Possio launches GPRS PC card
POSSIO LAUNCHES GPRS PC CARD BASED ON SIEMENS' MOBILE TECHNOLOGY Siemens and Possio developed a totally remote laptop computer modem that supports the general packet radio service (GPRS). The card enables data communication in current and future high-speed global system for mobile communication (GSM) networks. Possio developed the GCC - a GPRS PC card - for mobile operators that require a card for mobile-computer users so they can easily connect to high-speed networks when they're not in the office or in WLAN- or Bluetooth-supported areas. With the GCC, users can talk on their cell phones while their laptops are connected to the Internet or an intranet. The GCC was developed in collaboration with Siemens, which contributed the radio module in the card. Initially, mobile operators will directly offer the card. And with customized software for GPRS-based data communication, they'll be able to offer different IT solution packages. The card works directly with most operating systems, and by using operator-specific software, it will enable many special functions in GSM networks. The card is being launched at Cebit 2003 and will be available from operators and IT retailers during 2Q 2003. Each operator sets the price, which will be competitive compared to similar products. The PCC, a special fax version designed for Possio's mobile faxes, is also available.
