Possio launching wireless OSGi platform
POSSIO TO LAUNCH THE FIRST OSGI-BASED PLATFORM FOR WIRELESS SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS Possio is launching the first OSGi-based platform for wireless services and applications. In releasing the platform, Possio is now the only company that can supply in a single product both a wireless services connection between Bluetooth and WLAN and an OSGi platform for services and applications. In combining Bluetooth and WLAN access with an OSGi software platform, the Possio solution gives Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP) and other users unrivalled flexibility and greater cost-efficiency. Providers can supply, and customers obtain, services that are tailored to their requirements. Another major benefit of using the open OSGi environment is that it opens up a new range of uses and functions for mobile devices such as Compaq Ipaq and Palm Pilot. Examples of applications where a wireless OSGi-based platform could be used are wireless payments at gas stations, video monitoring in PDA's for security staff, patient journals at hospitals and customized advertising. The Possio platform is prepared for OSGi software from major OSGi platform vendors. Possio's OSGi-based platform and its Bluetooth and WLAN gateway form the basis of a series of wireless products that Possio is to release in 2001 and 2002.
