Designed for WCDMA applications, this innovative technology offers industry-leading performance in power output, efficiency and reliability

CTIA Wireless 2005, NEW ORLEANS, Booth #2644 – March 15, 2005 - Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a leading global supplier of end-to-end wireless infrastructure solutions, will demonstrate its third-generation digitally pre-distorted amplifier technology today here at CTIA Wireless 2005, the industry’s premier wireless conference and exposition, taking place March 14-16. Developed for next-generation WCDMA and CDMA2000 applications, this digitally pre-distorted amplifier technology provides 60W of output power for up to three WCDMA carriers while providing 35% total system efficiency in the 869 – 894 MHz band. The same technology will also available for the 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands offering 30% system efficiency. The IDEAL Architecture™ based DPD amplifier technology includes a digital IQ input, proprietary crest-factor reduction algorithms and all the required elements for a complete amplifier solution while consuming less than 175W. This breakthrough in efficiency allows customers to deploy power amplifiers in systems that were previously impossible due to size, cost, or power dissipation issues such as distributed antenna systems, base station hotels, remote boosters, and other wireless infrastructure access solutions. “As a leader in the development of innovative technology platforms for today’s wireless communications networks, our digitally pre-distorted amplifier technology continues to raise the bar, offering the latest advancements for next-generation wireless technologies,” said Ronald J. Buschur, President and Chief Executive Officer, Powerwave Technologies. “Additionally, the flexibility of Powerwave’s IDEAL Architecture provides OEMs with the ability to cost-effectively and efficiently implement our amplifier technology within distributed antenna systems, base station hotels, remote boosters and other wireless infrastructure access solutions.” About the IDEAL Architecture The advanced Powerwave IDEAL Architecture employs advanced thermal and reactive memory compensation algorithms in DSP, in order to correct for the high efficiency, highly non-linear RF amplification stages. State-of-the art nonlinear system modeling techniques are used in the predistortion engine section of the IDEAL Architecture, which achieve very high distortion suppression levels, superior to conventional DPD architectures used in high-efficiency applications. The outstanding distortion rejection of Powerwave’s IDEAL Architecture is only comparable to more costly (and much less efficient) feedforward amplifiers.
