Precise Biometrics is one of the industry leading companies in new American HSPD-12 consortium
Precise Biometrics AB (publ), develops and sells world leading and user friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprint and smart cards, is one of the members in, the recently formed HSPD-12 Interoperability Consortium in the US. The Consortium will ensure that US federal agencies' HSPD-12 Directive requirements are met. The Directive means that all US Federal agencies must issue smart ID cards with biometrics to all employees and contractors.
SafeNet Inc. (NASDAQ:SFNT) is the founder of the Consortium and is also an established partner of Precise Biometrics having worked together on several projects for US federal agencies. Besides SafeNet, the HSPD-12 Consortium is made up of seven other industry leading companies including Corestreet Ltd., Entrust, Forum Systems Inc., Intercede, Omnikey, Precise Biometrics Inc., and Probaris Technologies. All companies in the Consortium have great competence within different product areas and are committed to educating and providing an interoperable solution for federal agencies and system integrators. The Consortium's goal is to meet the US federal agencies' requirement to fulfil the US Federal Government's Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12). HSPD-12 was signed on August 27, 2004, in response to the general threat of unauthorized access to physical facilities and logical IT assets. The Directive is a general identification standard for federal employees and contractors. The companies in the Consortium bring a high level of expertise on varied products and share information and resources to minimize the integration challenges. In October 2006 all agencies affected by the HSPD-12 Directive must start issuing smart ID cards with biometrics. "The idea to create a consortium was born out of a desire to work with other industry leaders. The common goal is to protect the national interests of the United States and assuring compliance with HSPD-12," says Phil Saunders, General Manager of SafeNet's Borderless Security Business Unit. "The Consortium will focus on educating US federal agencies and systems integrators on the mandate and work together to create an interoperable solution and build a testing lab to demonstrate the development of the solution." "We are very proud to be one of the companies chosen to participate in this Consortium. Together we are confident that the Consortium can create a solution that meet the US federal agencies' requirements on increased security by using smart ID cards and biometrics," says Christer Bergman, CEO and President at Precise Biometrics.
