Putting ‘has bins’ back to work

If you fancy doing something out of the ordinary for the environment Visqueen Building Products could have the ideal solution. The eco-focused business, which offers a number of greener solutions to the building, maintenance and related sectors, has begun employing an unusual type of ‘raw material’ to create its range of 100% recycled plastic building films. Old and unwanted wheelie bins. Specific products now being produced using the ‘has bins’ include the manufacturer’s EcoMembrane damp proof membrane and its Eco TPS protective sheeting, which can be used to protect floors, verticals, fixtures and fittings during any building or remedial work. Both types of product already play an important part in diverting waste from landfill thanks to their production from other forms of plastic scrap that currently includes waste packaging, waste agricultural balewrap and used horticultural films. Under the latest scheme, Visqueen Building Products is helping to take old bins and recycling boxes off the hands of local authorities up and down the UK before reprocessing them at a network of UK recycling plants. This commitment to only ever using UK waste reprocessed at UK facilities not only ensures the firm’s products help to reduce landfill, it also gives them a carbon footprint much smaller than most other 100% recycled plastic building films which are typically produced overseas. Commenting on the ‘has bin’ recycling, Cameron Yates, Marketing Manager from Visqueen Building Products, said: “The use of plastic is the subject of much debate in today’s environmentally aware world and not least because there’s a perception that it’s difficult to dispose of and so destined to spend millennia in landfill. What the majority of people don’t realise however is that many types of plastic are now infinitely recyclable. “Visqueen Building Products has long been at the forefront of this remanufacturing and offers products ranging from damp proof membranes to landscaping materials, all made from 100% recycled plastic waste. “As part of our commitment to finding new and innovative ways of offering customers greener solutions, we continually look for new products and new materials we can employ as feedstock. The use of old wheelie bins is just the latest example of this.” More information about the Visqueen Building Products’ range can be found at www.visqueenbuilding.co.uk - ENDS - Images & captions: Wheelie bins.jpg & Eco Membrane.jpg Not to be rubbished.
