bpi.recycled products helps children think green
bpi.recycled products, the manufacturer of The Green Sack® range of ultra-low carbon footprint, 100% recycled refuse sacks, is helping future generations to understand the benefits of recycling. The business has teamed up with a school close to one of its sites to deliver a series of informative events and initiatives aimed at year six pupils.
To help with a wider environmental project being undertaken by the children, bpi.recycled products has offered the pupils from Ysgol Y Lawnt Primary School in Rhymney a factory tour of its nearby Rhymney site – one of four strategically located plants operated by the business across the UK.
This tour, which took place at the start of the academic year, enabled the children to see firsthand how bpi.recycled products recycles 95,000 tonnes of waste polythene each year, making it the largest polythene waste recycler in Europe. It prevents waste from a wide variety of agricultural, commercial, retail and industrial sources from being sent to landfill or exported for recycling, using it instead to produce a range of second life products including building films, outdoor furniture and The Green Sack® range of refuse sacks.
These sacks, which now include compostable options, have become the preferred choice for many of the UK’s leading organisations because of their unrivalled green credentials. Not only are they made from 100% recycled waste but as they utilise UK waste recycled at UK facilities, they also have a carbon footprint up to a third lower than most other recycled refuse sacks which are typically produced in the Far East.
In addition, throughout the year, the pupils from Ysgol Y Lawnt Primary School have been encouraged to play their own part in promoting the benefits of recycling amongst friends and family members. They have run waste collection schemes both at home and at school before depositing recyclable polythene waste - which has included carrier bags, plastic bottles and polythene postal envelopes - at bpi.recycled products’ Rhymney site. The business has subsequently recycled this material for the children into a range of new items.
Commenting on the partnership, Sian Miles, Environment and Materials Director at bpi.recycled products said: “As a community-minded business with strong CSR policies, bpi.recycled products has an on-going relationship with Ysgol Y Lawnt Primary School and we are only too pleased to invest the time, effort and resources into helping the year six pupils understand the benefits to recycling. Given that we are a market leader in our field, we ultimately see it as our duty to impart some of our extensive expertise and experience to a range of audiences - including future generations.”
Dilys Powell who heads the Eco Committee added: “We would like to thank bpi.recycled products for its continued support of the children from year six during their environmental project. As a school, we are proud to promote a sense of environmental awareness amongst all our pupils and to that end enjoy both Fairtrade and Eco-Schools green flag status. To have such an eco-focused and accommodating business on our doorstep which can so effectively illustrate the benefits to more sustainable choices is fantastic.”
