bpi.recycled products has secured a major new contract after successfully fulfilling a large and urgent order for a local authority. In just four days, the business, which ranks as one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of refuse and recycling sacks, produced and delivered 3 million recycling sacks to Biffa Leicester - a partnership company which deals with the collection, treatment and disposal of the City of Leicester’s domestic waste.

Lorcan Mekitarian, Sales Director at bpi.recycled products explains: “When we were approached by Biffa Leicester, the odds were very much against us. Issues outside of Biffa’s control meant they had a requirement for a large number of recycling sacks – and in an incredibly short period of time. As a business with a ‘can do’ approach, bpi.recycled products was only too willing to step into the breach and do whatever we could to help out.”

He continues: “There’s often a belief that large businesses are more unresponsive however we’ve shown that’s not always the case. Fulfilling this order was only possible because of our flexible approach combined with our extensive capabilities and our established infrastructure. It was also a real team effort entailing close co-operation between various departments at bpi.recycled products such as our production and design/reprographic departments, as well as with Biffa itself.”

The three million orange tinted sacks have been supplied in rolls of 50 and will be used for collecting co-mingled recyclable material such as paper, plastic, cardboard, cans and glass. They are also made from 100% recycled UK polythene waste which bpi.recycled products recycles at its own network of Environment Agency approved UK facilities. It adopts this approach to ensure its products have a lower carbon footprint compared to sacks which are made from part virgin and part recycled polythene.

bpi.recycled products also employs a wide variety of waste polythene in the production of its sacks and is always looking to purchase additional scrap material including misprints and factory over runs.

Speaking of bpi.recycled products’ success in fulfilling their urgent recycling sack requirement, Jonathan Feeley from Leicester City Council added: “We’re delighted with bpi.recycled products’ performance and with the fact that they were able to turn the order around despite its size and the tight timescales involved. We look forward to working with them moving forward and not least because they have shown themselves to be a company with the ability to deliver.”
