On the back of WRAP’s announcement of a voluntary reduction agreement for the hospitality and food service sector, BPI RP has moved quickly to develop a new range of products to help support the achievement of the food waste reduction targets.

bpi.recycled products supports the aims of the HAFS Voluntary Agreement, which are to 1) To cut food and associated packaging waste by 5% 2) To increase the overall rate of food and packaging waste that is being recycled, sent to AD or composted to 70%.

Every year, WRAP estimates that 600ktes of food waste is disposed of in general waste by the hospitality and food service sectors and calculate that if just 25% of the sector were to sign up, they can save up to £76 million by the end of 2015, and reduce their CO2 (e) impact by 570,000 tonnes.

With such clear economical and environmental benefits the need for simple and practical food waste collection schemes are essential. Using their years of experience working with waste management companies, bpi.recycled products has developed a range of sacks which are suitable for disposal via both In Vessel Composting (IVC) and Anaerobic Digestion Units (AD), both of which are likely to be play a key role in the eventual disposal of the single source food waste.

Sold under the The Green Sack Compostable brand and carrying BS EN 13432 approvals, the extensive new range covers a variety of sizes and grades to suit different applications and containers.

Commenting on the new range, Gerry McGarry, Commercial Director at bpi.recycled products said: “bpi.recycled products recognises the crucial need to reduce the amount of food waste being sent to landfill in the UK in order to minimise its resultant environmental impact. As such we condone the new voluntary agreement and are delighted to be at the forefront in supporting this initiative with new innovative waste collection solutions.”
