bpi.visqueen reveals plans for Fruit Focus 2012

Leading manufacturer of horticultural films, bpi.visqueen has announced its plans for Fruit Focus 2012. At the exhibition, which takes place on the 25th July at the East Malling Research Centre in Kent, the business will be showcasing its latest product developments in addition to illustrating the recently enhanced farm film recycling capabilities of sister division bpi.recycled products.

Visitors to the bpi.visqueen stand (Stand 208) will be able to learn more about the manufacturer’s popular Luminance product. Designed specifically to increase crop yield and quality, this innovative polytunnel film employs high diffusion characteristics to control the temperature within a tunnel and works to prevents heat build-up.

Unlike conventional shading films, Luminance draws on a special formulation and a thermal barrier to reduce infra-red radiation, which can prove to be a limiting factor in healthy plant growth, whilst also letting through high levels of useful PAR light. As a result, plants continue to receive all the sunlight needed to grow but unwanted heat build-up and consequent plant scorching is significantly reduced.

As a further benefit, Luminance also helps to minimise heat loss from the tunnel overnight. This not only prevents excessive heat fluctuation and subsequent plant stress, it also encourages higher production during colder periods. Plus, Luminance is also available in an anti-fog range to help control the condensation of water that collects on the film.

bpi.visqueen will be joined on their stand by sister business bpi.recycled products, which ranks as Europe’s largest recycler of polythene waste. Waste horticultural film continues to be a problem for British growers and the lack of UK recycling facilities means that this material often ends up being either exported for recycling to countries like Vietnam and Malaysia, sent to landfill or even illegally burnt.

To enable more horticultural waste to be recycled at UK facilities, bpi.recycled products has recently completed a £4.5 million investment into a new state-of-the-art waste wash plant at its Rhymney site in South Wales. The resulting recyclate will then be used to create new second life products such as refuse sacks, outdoor furniture and building films.
