A member of staff from leading manufacturer of refuse and recycling sacks, bpi.recycled products has recently completed a gruelling charity bike ride. Former serviceman John Haddow, Environmental Manager at the business, cycled 144 miles in order to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

On 8th August 2011, John set out from the bpi.recycled products’ Rhymney, South Wales site and rode to its Heanor factory in Derbyshire. He completed the ride in exactly 12 hours and so far has raised an impressive total of £1,058.

Established in October 2007, Help for Heroes is a leading UK charity that aims to provide practical and direct support to members of the armed forces that have been wounded in the line of duty whilst serving in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Commenting on the ride, John said: “As an ex-serviceman, Help for Heroes is a charity that’s close to my heart. While the ride was certainly a challenge, it felt great to be giving something back and raising money for such a worthwhile cause. Hopefully, the money raised will help to make a real difference to the lives of wounded servicemen and women.

“As Environmental Manager at bpi.recycled products, I also felt that the ride would be particularly useful in highlighting the green benefits of choosing alternative methods of transport.”
