LOCAL BUSINESS ENJOYS DOUBLE AWARD SUCCESS

A local business is celebrating its success after winning two prestigious green awards. bpi.recycled products, which operates from Heanor, Derbyshire, recently picked up two coveted Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice.

The leading manufacturer of refuse and recycling sacks, which ranks as Europe’s largest recycler of polythene waste recycling over 70,000 tonnes of material each year, received its first gold award in the Recycled Product category thanks to its flagship Green Sack® range of 100% recycled refuse sacks.

Made from 100% recycled polythene, bpi.recycled products’ Green Sack® range received recognition not only for its superior environmental credentials, but also for helping to raise awareness of the need to recycle more UK waste plastic at UK facilities.

Widely recognised as some of the greenest products of their kind on the market, Green Sacks are produced entirely from UK waste recycled at bpi.recycled products’ own UK network of Environment Agency approved recycling sites. This gives them a carbon footprint of up to a third lower than refuse sacks made from virgin materials and significantly lower than most other 100% recycled refuse sacks, which are typically manufactured in the Far East and, as such, have massive product miles.

The business also secured a second gold award under the Environmental Improvement category for an innovative waste management and landfill reduction project at bpi.recycled products’ Stroud site – which set out to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill by 5% each year.
