LOCAL BUSINESS ENJOYS DOUBLE AWARD SUCCESS

A local business is celebrating its success after winning two prestigious green awards. bpi.recycled products, which operates from Stroud, Gloucestershire, recently picked up two coveted Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice.

The leading manufacturer of refuse and recycling sacks, which ranks as Europe’s largest recycler of polythene waste recycling over 70,000 tonnes of material each year, received its first gold award in the Environmental Improvement category thanks to an innovative waste management and landfill reduction project at the manufacturer’s Stroud site.

The initiative, which set out to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill by 5% each year, saw the business invest in staff training and robust waste stream management practices. It has also developed strong links with other recycling companies in the local area to help dispose of scrap wood, metal and cardboard. Plus, plastic waste from the site is also recycled for use in the manufacture of bpi.recycled products’ flagship Green Sack® range of 100% recycled refuse sacks.

In addition, the business has successfully achieved its goal to make all waste management self funding. It plans to use the money saved by waste reduction to install new energy efficient systems with a view to reducing overall energy consumption for the Stroud site.

The business’ second gold award was in the Recycled Product category and was awarded to its Green Sack® range of refuse sacks. Made from 100% recycled polythene, Green Sacks not only boast superior environmental credentials, but also help to raise awareness of the need to recycle more UK waste plastic at UK facilities.
