SCOTTISH SUCCESS FOR BPI.VISQUEEN
A forklift truck driver from leading manufacturer of industrial packaging, bpi.visqueen is celebrating his success after winning a national competition. Robert Watson, who works at the bpi.visqueen’ Ardeer factory, was crowned Scottish Champion in the RTITB Operator of the Year Competition 2011. The annual event, which took place in Glasgow on 4th May, is designed to recognise the hard work and skill of forklift truck operators whilst raising awareness of the need for accredited training.
Robert, who was trained by John McWhinnie Forklift Training, took part in a series of tests to claim the coveted title. In addition to a pre-use check and a theory test, this included two practical assessments, which were marked on a penalties basis.
Robert’s success means he will now qualify for the all-UK Grand Final taking place at RTITB’s headquarters in Shropshire in September. This will see Robert compete against four other national champions for the title of RTITB Operator of the Year 2011.
Commenting on his victory, Robert said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been crowned Scottish champion. The tests were demanding but they were also great fun and I really enjoyed the challenge. It’s an honour to be through to the UK final and I’m really looking forward to taking part.”

He was competing against some of the best forklift operators in Scotland and to secure first place is an extremely positive reflection on his skills and talents.
