Visqueen simplifies specification of ground gas venting
With acute land shortages making the need to build on gas contaminated land a growing necessity, Visqueen Building Products is helping to simplify the challenges of specifying hazardous ground gas venting.
In line with its commitment to continued innovation, the business has just launched a new gas venting system and complemented it with a comprehensive technical design service and an in-depth specification guide. All three initiatives help to ensure easy compliance with BS8485:2007 and draw on the Visqueen’s extensive expertise as one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of structural waterproofing and gas protection solutions.
Cameron Yates, product manager at Visqueen, explains: “Visqueen is committed to pioneering new advances in structural waterproofing and gas protection and it’s this commitment that's led to the recent enhancement of our gas venting offer.
“We wanted to eliminate some of the common challenges in this area by providing a complete product and support package which caters for customer requirements at every touchpoint – from initial specification through to product installation. We also wanted to make it easier for people to comply with relevant building regulations and code of practices such as BS8485:2007.”
From a product perspective, the new Visqueen gas venting system includes lightweight, easy to install gas vent mats, a comprehensive selection of gas flow fittings and a choice of gully vents, airbricks and gas venting bollards. It also features a new and particularly innovative flood resistant gas vent box.
Ideal for use where ducting cannot be taken through a perimeter wall, such as on buildings with curtain walling or glazed perimeters, the new Visqueen gas vent box employs an intelligent design complete with two pipe connections. The first of these connects to the venting system to ensure gas is safely dispersed into the atmosphere. The second connects to a stormwater or land drainage system to reduce the risk of water flooding into the void.
The system is also completed by a technical design service which can provide complete technical detailing and CAD drawings of a proposed gas venting systems, based on project specific information such as site investigation reports.
Similarly, Visqueen’s new gas venting guide makes it easier for customers to specify products by providing comprehensive technical information in an easy to navigate, easy to reference format.
Concluding, Cameron Yates adds: “Visqueen is proud to be an expert in the field of ground gas protection and we already offer a full range of gas barrier systems able to protect against radon, CO2 and methane. The launch of our new gas venting system and its associated support initiatives is designed to complement that. It also serves as further evidence of our commitment to being a complete solutions provider, offering customer access to the best products backed by the very highest levels of service and support.”
