Preem and Sirius Focus on More Environmentally Adapted Tankers
On Saturday, October 20, the company Sirius names the new environmentally adapted tanker MT Mercurius in Shanghai, China. The vessel is a modern addition to the shipping company's commitment to safer and sustainable maritime transport, with the least possible environmental impact.
"The vessel meets high standards of safety, quality and efficiency, with a strong focus on long-term sustainability and low environmental impact. Among other things, the ship has a hull design and efficient machine, which results in lower fuel consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. MT Mercurius is also prepared to run on liquid natural gas (LNG) for a future LNG infrastructure, "says Jonas Backman, CEO of Sirius Shipping.
The tanker will be long-term leased by the fuel company Preem for deliveries to the company's depots and customers in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The Swedish flag ship is delivered to Preem at the end of March 2019 and will have its home harbor at Donsö in Gothenburg's archipelago.

Preem's maritime transport applies "slow steaming", which means that the ships adjust speed to minimize the time of anchorage at refineries and ports. This contributes to lower fuel consumption, increased safety and the least possible environmental impact.

- Product / tank tanks of 7,999 dwt / 9,500 cbm / 119.9m loa / 19.4m beam.
- The installation of HPSCR reactor to the main machine and Catamis to the auxiliary machines greatly reduces CO2 emissions
- NOx emissions can be kept below 2 g NOx / kWh.
- Equipped with dual-fuel machine
- Stability and strength test for installation of LNG tanks on tires
