BLACK BOX NETWORK INDUSTRY SURVEY 2002 CONFIRMS MOST NETWORKING BUDGETS STAY STATIC Most networking budgets aren't being increased this year says new research conducted by independent research agency, Revelation Research, on behalf of Black Box Network Services. The Black Box Network Industry Survey, now in its 9th year, investigated if budgets had been changed and what is the focus for investment this year. 38% of respondents said that their budgets had stayed the same, whilst 17% said they had their budgets decreased. With most budgets frozen, 49% of respondents said the focus for investment is on upgrading and maintaining the existing network infrastructure. 40% were extending their existing network, for example, by new users. Only 11% of respondents were spending money on completely new network infrastructure. Richard Ryan, director, Revelation Research commented, "These figures confirm that uptake of new technology this year will be slow and not substantial. The research also showed that just over 60% of sites surveyed still have obsolete networking technologies installed." The complete Black Box Network Industry Survey 2002 investigated trends in network infrastructure and technologies, access, security, power supply issues and attitudes among networking professionals about their working lives. Conducted using structured interviews by telephone in April 2002, the survey interviewed 201 networking professionals in manufacturing, service industries and the public sector.
