FANS VOTE FOR COLLINA 'TRANSFER' TO BARCLAYCARD PREMIERSHIP An online poll undertaken by megasoccer.com has shown that 68% of football fans want Italian referee Pierluigi Collina, who officiated in Brazil's World Cup final victory over Germany in Yokohama, to be transferred to the Barclaycard Premiership. This finding raises the notion of transferring international referees to England's top flight. The online poll was conducted by megasoccer.com, which covers 'the world of soccer - on one site' and asked fans whether they would like to see Collina transferred to the Barclaycard Premiership. More than 2,200 fans of English football from across the globe were questioned in the survey conducted over the weekend of the World Cup Final (28 June - 1 July). Collina was born in Bologna on 13 February 1960 and is famous for his bald head, fierce glare and an authoritative manner that has won fans' trust through his performances in both European and international fixtures. As a result, few were surprised when he was handed the task of refereeing soccer's biggest game - the World Cup Final - by FIFA. Rob Salmon, the Managing Editor of megasoccer.com stated: "Pierluigi Collina has consistently shown himself to be a top class referee and it came as no surprise when FIFA selected him to officiate the World Cup Final. As megasoccer.com's poll has shown fans would love to see him come over to England and perhaps one day it might just happen!"
