NEW RESEARCH PROVES EGGS BUILD BETTER BABIES The superior nutritional content of eggs makes them the ideal food for weaning your baby, according to new research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. This latest study gives added credence to the plethora of existing research that suggests eggs are nature's original functional food. The researchers propose that egg yolks are practical, weaning foods, which babies tend to like. Nutritionist for the British Egg Information Service, Cath MacDonald, said: "By the time babies get to about six months old, their nutrient stores are becoming seriously depleted. Eggs provide a nutrient dense food that, as the new research suggests, babies find delicious. Eggs are fabulous nutritionally; they contain the finest quality protein, including all eight amino acids, and are the benchmark by which other high protein foods are judged. "Also, with the British Lion Quality salmonella vaccination programme, eggs are now safer than they've ever been. In the past two years over 150,000 Lion Quality eggs have been independently tested and all were found to be free of the bacteria. Giving cooked eggs to babies will give them a real nutritional boost." Three out of four UK eggs are produced under the voluntary Lion Code of Practice. All major retailers and other reputable outlets stock British Lion Quality eggs.
