Norwood Systems wins Australian innovation award for EnterpriseMobilitytm Enterprise wireless voice and data solution showcased to global business and IT leaders at the World Congress on IT in Adelaide, Australia Perth, Australia and Richmond-upon-Thames, UK - 26th February 2002 - Norwood Systems has been selected to showcase its Bluetoothtm enterprise wireless technology, EnterpriseMobility, to the delegates at the IT Business Forum, 25th and 26th February, in Adelaide, Australia. As the curtain raiser for the World Congress on IT, the Forum will allow the world's IT business leaders to see the companies that are the cream of Australia's IT industry. The wireless communications company, Norwood Systems, was selected from entries nationwide as a winner in the 'Secrets of Australian IT Innovation' competition. Its product, EnterpriseMobility, was voted most innovative for its ability to allow organisations to gain access to voice and data via the wireless short-range radio standard, Bluetooth. "This is the latest of a series of awards we have won in the last year for EnterpriseMobility." commented Paul Østergaard, Chairman and CEO of Norwood Systems. "Through this award, Norwood Systems has been recognised for its proven ability to fill the gap in businesses' mobility needs. Using Australian innovation we are carving out a new market and going beyond what is currently achievable for communication in the world. We are delighted that a Western Australian-based company has been so successful in the competition and we will continue to change the rules for business communications." Norwood Systems' EnterpriseMobility allows a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone, headset or PDA to be linked wirelessly through the LAN to the corporate voice and data network, while the employee is able to move freely about the organisation. With EnterpriseMobility, end users can now make and receive calls using a wire-free headset or Bluetooth- enabled mobile phone anywhere in their buildings. Additionally, they can access any data on the corporate network through their PDA and update office applications, such as calendars, contact details or emails, without needing to be at their desk. Judges of the competition acknowledged Norwood Systems' ability to reduce the telecoms cost while giving employees the freedom of communicating without being tied to their desks. The judges included Ian Grayson (The Australian Newspaper), Bob Hayward (SVP Gartner Research), Dr. Richard Price (Defence Science and Technology Organisation) Ian Thatcher (Deloitte Touche Tomatsu) and Debra Tippett (Minter Ellison). 'Secrets of Australian IT Innovation' attracted entries from companies, research organisations and universities in the areas of e-commerce, security, wireless technologies, photonics, multimedia, smartcards, business and industrial software solutions and other IT applications. It is supported by the Commonwealth Government's Innovation Access Program, and in particular is aimed at venture capitalists, investors and IT solutions providers.
