Lloyds TSB Insurance gives its top ten tips for a safe barbecue: 1. stand your barbecue on a flat, stable surface away from fences, sheds and trees 2. keep young children and animals away from the area 3. keep raw and cooked food separate 4. never move the barbecue once it has been lit 5. use only recommended barbecue lighter fuel 6. do not add lighter fuel after the coals have started burning 7. wear suitable clothing and tie long hair back 8. have a bucket of water or sand nearby 9. if it rains do not move the barbecue indoors as charcoal gives off carbon monoxide 10. when finished, make sure the fire is put out safely.
