What did Albert Einstein win the Nobel Prize for in 1921? Which metal is the best conductor of electricity? Which year saw the Challenger shuttle and Chernobyl disasters? This week, 11-16 year old students up and down the country have been answering these questions as part of a trial run for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Science Race. Round one of the real race takes place against the clock at 12.40pm on Friday 8 March 2002, with round two taking place on Friday 15 March at the same time. A new attraction this year is the launch of the Treasure Hunt, which takes place during Science Week, 8 March - 15 March. Students who have registered on the site will be able to access clues leading to a particular science or engineering related website where a Science Race Icon is to be found. Schools can register for the race by logging on to www.epsrc- sciencerace.net 2.
