TRIO AIMS TO GET THE UK RECYCLING MORE ALUMINIUM CANS The drive to get the UK to recycle more of its empty aluminium drink cans is being spearheaded by three glamorous, young women. They feature on the new website www.cashforcans.co.uk which has been launched by Alcan Aluminium Can Recycling. The site uses the three girls to explain the aluminium drink can recycling business and Alcan's Cash for Cans service, which enables recyclers to 'trade in' their empty drink cans for cash. If every one of the 5 billion aluminium cans sold in the UK each year was recycled it would raise over £40 million for collectors. The website features a unique interactive recycling tour which takes visitors around the aluminium can recycling 'loop' following empty drink cans from the Cash for Cans centre to Alcan's dedicated used aluminium beverage can recycling plant in Warrington, Cheshire. Since it was first launched in the UK in 1989 Cash for Cans has benefited thousands of charities, schools and voluntary organisations. Examples of successful collectors from all walks of life are featured in the "Success File" section of the site. There are also games and competitions, downloadable posters and literature, screensavers and desktop patterns. Alcan Aluminium Can Recycling hopes that using the animated characters to promote the Cash for Cans message will motivate a wide audience to adopt the recycling habit. It is particularly keen to attract younger people, who's involvement is seen as crucial to growing the recycling rate for aluminium drink cans (currently 42%).
