Habitat for Humanity of Collier County celebrates dedication of 1500th home
On Saturday Dec. 15 at 10 a.m., Habitat for Humanity of Collier County invites the community to join with Board members, donors, volunteers and partner families to celebrate the dedication of 14 homes in the community of Regal Acres in Naples. Among those to be dedicated is the milestone 1,500th home built by Habitat for Humanity in Collier County, purchased by the Plantin family. The family of six was living in a small two-bedroom apartment in a crime-ridden community paying $800 per month in rent, leaving little left over for food and clothing. Maxo Plantain, the father, is a laundry attendant at The Ritz Carlton. His wife Rose spends her days raising the children.
The ceremony will include the presentation of a housewarming basket to each new homeowner family as well as remarks by the new homeowners and Habitat for Humanity of Collier County President and CEO, Dr. Sam Durso. Culminating in the blessing of the homes, the dedication is an opportunity to rejoice at the efforts of all involved. Afterwards, the homes will be open for touring.
Habitat for Humanity of Collier County is the largest affiliate of the international organization as well as one of the oldest and will mark its 35th anniversary in 2013. Through Habitat’s unique partnership approach, families are given the opportunity to become part of the solution, receiving not a temporary hand-out but instead a life-changing hand-up. Each Habitat family helps to build their home and then purchases it from Habitat for Humanity at cost, with a no interest loan.
