To enhance operational efficiencies and further reduce supply costs for healthcare systems, LeeSar has opened a new, state-of-the-art, 205,000-square-foot regional service center in Fort Myers. One of the only healthcare supply chain companies in the country to focus on regional service and delivery of supplies directly to health care organizations, LeeSar manages and houses mission-critical operational services in its new facility. In addition to acquiring and distributing medical supplies, LeeSar manages pharmaceutical packaging, sterile instrument processing, supply distribution and cook and chill services for healthcare systems across the Southeast U.S., including Lee Memorial Health System and Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. The facility also houses centralized purchasing; contract management and negotiations; and administration offices.

Located on 23 acres at 2727 Winkler Ave. in Fort Myers, LeeSar Regional Service Center is valued at more than $40 million and is among the highest-valued construction projects completed over the past year along Florida’s west coast. Prior to the completion of the new facility, LeeSar operated out of a 60,000-square-foot facility in Lehigh Acres. Employees have transferred to the new facility, and an additional 50 new jobs have been created. The new facility is LeeSar’s base of operations and has more than 320 employees.

“In the national debate over how to make U.S. healthcare more efficient and cost effective, supply and non-care operational costs are often overlooked despite the fact that supply costs are the second leading cost following labor costs in health care,” says Robert Simpson, president and CEO of LeeSar. “It’s vital to patient care that providers on the front lines of medical care delivery have the right tools and supplies at the right place, and right time. The new LeeSar Regional Service Center offers additional resources and expanded services to greatly expand supply chain and other non-care services so that hospitals can reduce inventory and operating costs and allow providers to focus on what they do best – providing the highest quality care to patients.”

LeeSar Regional Service Center functions 24 hours per day, seven days per week to service hospitals and healthcare organizations and providers throughout the Southeastern U.S. including Lee Memorial Health System, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, Central Florida Health Alliance in Leesburg, Fla. and Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala.

“At a time when many health systems have turned to outsourcing their mission-critical health care operations, LeeSar enables Lee Memorial Health System to keep these functions within the community and under one roof,” says Jim Nathan, president of Lee Memorial Health System and one of several visionaries behind the LeeSar project. “For example, state-of-the-art surgical instrument sterilization services are centralized at LeeSar rather than at each individual facility. Specially trained workers prepare instruments in the sterile processing room, properly preparing and barcoding each item. Not only does this mean that hospitals will save money and time, but it can lead to improvements in patient care delivery.” LeeSar is a state-of-the-art, regional healthcare supply chain management company serving healthcare organizations in the Southeast U.S. Formed as a cooperative effort by Lee Memorial Health System and Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, LeeSar provides hospitals, physicians offices, dental care centers, and ambulatory and outpatient surgical centers with a variety of healthcare supply chain services including the acquisition and distribution of medical supplies; packaging of pharmaceuticals; surgical instrument sterilization; surgical pack manufacturing; repair and express delivery of surgical instruments; food preparation; centralized purchasing; and contract management and negotiations. Since its inception in 1998, the company has been recognized for its innovation and progressive business practices with numerous awards and accolades. Most recently, LeeSar received the Senator’s Choice Award, presented by Senator Michael Bennett, recognizing LeeSar as “The 2011 Most Innovative Company” in the state of Florida.
