Skidmarques ‘marches’ forward
The team at specialist wheel alignment and tyre centre, Skidmarques in Brentwood, could be forgiven for being in party mode thanks to a double cause for celebration.
Not only has the business just moved to larger premises to cope with the high demand for its services, which include wheel alignment, tyres and alloy wheels, but it’s just been named as Pro-Align’s Alignment Centre of the Month for March.
What’s even more impressive is that the expansion comes just 18 months after the business started, with new technology playing a central part in its strategy.
The Essex-based firm is owned by father and son team, Keith and Damien Playell, and it’s primarily due to their willingness to embrace new technology, such as the very latest Hunter HawkEye Elite TD wheel alignment system, that has seen them recently open the larger unit and benefit from the highly profitable opportunities from wheel alignment.
Indeed, their original Hunter WA aligner paid for itself within eight months and the second system is a top-of-the-range HawkEye Elite TD, just recently installed at the new site which is literally a stone’s throw from their previous premises. The two Hunter wheel aligners are now effectively operating side by side and are constantly busy throughout the week.
Keith said: “We’ve always tried to take the initiative in the way we work, whether it’s actively engaging with local car clubs or even organising open evenings for female motorists, so it’s great that our hard work has been recognised by Pro-Align.
“Of course, our proactive approach is vital in making the business a success. We also need to fully embrace new technologies and when it comes to cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment it doesn’t get much better than Hunter.”
However, another more unusual example of Skidmarques utilising new technology is the installation of number plate recognition equipment, so they know who has arrived and, for example, if they are an existing customer it can then provide some vehicle and personal information picked up from previous visits, even down to their tea and coffee preferences!
