MEDIA AVAILABILITY: MARK SERRANO, CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS EXPERT AND NATIONAL ADVOCATE FOR SEX ABUSE SURVIVORS AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT ON SANDUSKY TRIAL
Serrano to provide commentary and analysis on how Penn State handled the crisis from day one
LANSDOWNE, Va., June 11, 2012 -- Crisis communications and public relations expert Mark Serrano, a national advocate for sex abuse survivors, is available to provide insight and commentary during the criminal child sex abuse trial of former Penn State Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky.
Serrano has appeared on multiple cable and Washington, DC- area news programs from the outset of the Penn State sex abuse cover up. He has repeatedly called out Penn State officials for failing to implement an effective and necessary communications strategy following the initial reports of alleged abuse by Sandusky.
Serrano commends the victims for their strength and urges them to remain vigilant in their efforts to assist the prosecution toward a victory in court. He hopes the events and missteps by Penn State will help prevent this type of horror from occurring again.
About the commentator:
As a sex abuse survivor and national advocate, Serrano offers both personal experience and knowledge on this highly sensitive subject. At the outset of the Catholic Church child sex abuse crisis in 2002, Serrano's story of abuse and secrecy was featured in a front page story in the New York Times. The story made Serrano the first clergy abuse survivor to publicly break a gag order in a church settlement through the national media.
Serrano has conducted hundreds of live and taped interviews as a commentator with major national broadcast and cable news outlets and news publications. He is also an opinion-editorial writer and has been published in major daily newspapers across the country.
Serrano is also the founder of ProActive Communications, a strategic communications firm which provides expert public affairs, digital PR, and multimedia services to its clients (www.proactivecommunications.com).
