THE UK’s leading pest control brand, Procter Pest-Stop, will be unleashing its new Electronic Pest Control range at February’s Totally DIY Show, which is being staged at Birmingham’s NEC.

Ever since Procter Brothers produced the world-renowned ‘Little Nipper’ mousetrap more than a century ago, the company, which is based in South Wales and West Yorkshire, has been at the forefront of the pest control industry with its range of traditional traps, humane traps and poisons and electronic repellers.

New products are:

  • Pest Repeller for Large Rooms
  • Three Single Room Pest Repellers
  • Repeller for Whole House
  • Repeller for Larger House

Some of the old favourites include:

  • Electronic Mouse Killer
  • Electronic Rat Killer
  • Electronic Bird Scarer
  • Ultrasonic Cat Scarer
  • Pest-Stop Outdoor
  • Bark Trainer

Now, under the brand name Procter Pest-Stop, a one-stop shop for pest control requirements, the company is launching an exciting range of products.

The new range of pest repellers are updates from previous Procter Pest-Stop products. Redesigned with a slim, ultra-modern look, and innovative retail packaging, they give even greater coverage across a range of premises by emitting ultrasonic waves which cause auditory stress to rodents and crawling insect pests.

The best-selling Pest-Stop Outdoor detects movement up to 70 feet away and uses a powerful ultrasonic repeller deterring animals such as dogs, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, badgers and deer. The Ultrasonic Cat Scarer has a PIR motion-sensor, detecting felines 40 feet away, and scaring them with a powerful whistle inaudible to humans.

Using a sensor, the Bark Trainer offers an ideal device for dog owners wanting to teach their pets not to bark and will emit a series of high sonic whistles.

The DIY market place is fast-moving and always changing. Totally DIY runs alongside Totally Secure and Totally Tools at Birmingham’s NEC from February 5th-7th. This Spring Fair will feature 3,000 exhibitors and some 300,000 new products.  www.totallydiy.co.uk/content

Editor’s notes:

Pest Repeller for Large Rooms (this product replaces PS0500, available January 2012)/ Three Single Room Pest Repellers (replaces PS0503, available January 2012):  These are our entry-level ultrasonic pest repellers from a new slim-line range.  It covers an area twice as large as the product it replaces with an impressive 1,000 square feet of coverage.  The repellers works by emitting ultrasonic waves which cause auditory stress to rodents and crawling insect pests. They cannot be heard by humans, dogs, cats, fish or birds, but are highly effective against mice, rats and most crawling insects.

Repeller for the Whole House (Replaces PS2000)With a coverage of 2,500 square feet, this new repeller covers a typical house.  As well as ultrasonic, the repeller uses electromagnetic waves and is highly effective against rodents and most crawling insects.  Its new PET-Safe setting means it can be used around rodent pets, with new frequencies to disrupt mice and rats.

Repeller for the Larger House: As the name suggests, this repeller is for larger houses, covering an impressive 4,000 square feet. Like the repeller for the Whole House, it also uses both ultrasonic and electromagnetic waves, but also has many additional feature. It is the only pest repeller with a spider setting. The new energy-saving setting means it costs just a few pence a month to operate. A new Pet-Safe setting means the device can be used around rodent pets while a new ultrasound frequency disrupts the normal breeding and nesting behaviour of rodents.

Electronic Mouse Killer: State-of-the-art ‘smart’ electronics control this unique device. When a mouse enters the electronic mouse killer and negotiates its way towards the bait, it reaches a point where it touches both killing plates and completes an electrical circuit, which kills the mouse virtually instantly.

Electronic Rat Killer: Similar to the electronic mouse killer using state-of-the-art ‘smart’ electronics. When a rat enters the electronic rat killer to reach the bait, it reaches a point where it touches both killing plates and completes an electrical circuit, which kills it in seconds. Because of the open design to suit rats rather than mice, the rat killer is intended for use by professional pest controllers and agricultural workers.

Electronic Bird Scarer: This highly effective device uses the hunting calls of sparrowhawk, falcons and owls to frighten other birds away. It has been tested and proven against pigeons, seagulls and smaller birds.

Ultrasonic Cat Scarer: This device uses a PIR motion sensor to detect movement to a distance of 40 feet, then emits a powerful ultrasonic whistle which scares cats away.  Its pre-set frequencies deters other cats, but won’t affect other animals and pets. The device uses 2 x 9v batteries (not included) or Procter Pest-Stop mains adaptor (sold separately).

Pest-Stop Outdoor: A powerful ultrasonic repeller designed to clear the garden of unwanted visitors.  The motion detector detects movement up to 70 feet from the unit, which triggers a burst of powerful ultrasound, harmlessly scaring the intruder away. Creatures affected include: Rats, cats, dogs, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, badgers and deer.

Bark Trainer: This battery-operated device uses High Sonic sound to teach your dog not to bark. A sensor detects whenever the dog barks, and the Bark Trainer then emits a series of high sonic whistles. You can adjust the unit to react only to your dog's barking. It is simple to use, and harmless to your pet with no harmful chemicals or pesticides.

BACKGROUNDER

Procter Brothers is one of the UK’s longest-established designers, manufacturers and suppliers of products for enhancing the home and garden environment.

With world-renowned brands such as the ‘Little Nipper’, ‘Pest-Stop’ and ‘Trip-Trap’ it has been manufacturing rodent traps for more than 100 years – Procter Brothers itself has been in existence since 1740.

The company made a name for itself at the turn of the century with production of the ‘Little Nipper’ mousetrap. British inventor James Henry Atkinson invented the prototype in 1897 – a classic snapping mousetrap with a small, flat wooden base, a spring trap and wire fastenings, and the company has been manufacturing the ‘Little Nipper’ ever since.

Back in 2004, Procter Brothers brought all of its market-leading pest control products together under a single new brand name: Pest-Stop, with the intention that the Pest-Stop brand became the one-stop shop for all pest control requirements.

From its sites in Leeds and South Wales, Procter Pest-Stop is now the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality pest control products. Their comprehensive range includes products which use the latest ultrasonic and electromagnetic technologies.

As a measure of how good Procter Brothers products are, they are widely used by pest control professionals internationally to trap or repel most pests.

The company offers a thorough range of electronic pest repellers, mouse traps, rat traps, mole traps, traditional baits, and ‘humane’ mouse catchers - The Procter Pest-Stop range of high quality products is continuously developed to meet the needs of professionals, with its expertise in this field second to none.

With the half barrel mole trap, first developed by John Newton Duffus in 1920, Pest-Stop called in one of the UK’s leading expert mole catchers, Jeff Nicholls to refine the design of the product, which is also known as a tunnel mole trap. What has been produced is a revised mole trap, neatly designed but which humanely and efficiently does the job – this trap is now used by the Guild of British Molecatchers for their training courses.

Procter Pest-Stop’s brand is built on reputation and continued success, delivering products which are easy to use and effective. A measure of that success is customer feedback which allows the company to forge ahead by further developing its product range:

Success with the Cat Repeller: “These super, little brown sticks we have found to be very effective, clean and easy to use for keeping cats out of our garden!” Trevor W (via e-mail).

Pest-Stop 2000 (Whole House Repeller), an effective solution: “I would like to congratulate you on a very good and effective product. I am sincerely impressed with the speed that it dealt with my pest problem. I had previously called in a private pest control firm at a cost of £200, but saw no improvement in the situation. After I bought the PS2000, within 24 hours I realised there were no noises. It was wonderfully quiet. They are the best thing that I have ever bought. I will certainly recommend them to other people.” Brenda R, (Spalding, Lincolnshire).

Mole repeller: “It makes a pleasant change to deal with a company that has a no quibble after-sales service for its customers. I have installed the new mole repeller and it is working fine. I have recommended your product to friends of mine who suffer mole problems.” Trevor Ferris (via e-mail).

Winning the rat race: “I purchased one of your ‘Pest Clear Professional’ units yesterday as I live in a wooded area. Due to the cold weather, a large quantity of rats (10 or so!) moved into the house, under the floor, in the roof and wall spaces. I got home last night, plugged in the unit and stood back and watched them all run for their lives down the garden! Absolutely delighted with the unit. Never seen so many rats leave a house with such speed and determination.” Louise Raymond (via e-mail).

Pest-Stop 2000 (Whole House Repeller): “I have to write to you to ask you to commend your staff on their service to customers. In the last two years, I have had occasion to contact the company on their performance of ‘Pest-Stop 2000’. Each time, I have received superlative service – full marks! If I had a gold star, I would award it to you. Keep up the good work.” Mrs G.P. Rayton (Lincoln).

Outdoor repeller: “I purchased an outdoor pest repeller in April 2006 as I have a problem with cats in the garden. I am pleased to report a great improvement and am extremely satisfied with the effectiveness of the product.”  N.W.R. Houlgate (via e-mail).

Mole deterrent: “Appoximately 12 months ago we purchased a pest clear high power sonic mole repeller with a range of 9,000 square feet. After a short period of time, it had deterred moles with one re-appearance during the summer.” Troy S (via e-mail).

Vermin problems: “I would like to say a big thank you for the excellent service you have given us and how helpful your staff have been in resolving our vermin problems. You may well see reports in the national press of a mass exodus of vermin from Reepham, Lincolnshire.” C. Caldwell (Reepham, Lincolnshire).

Customer service: “I must let you know how much I appreciate your extremely swift and helpful response to our problem. We wish to congratulate your company upon the high standards of its after-sales service, from which others could learn a good lesson.” Colin G. White MBE (Wargrave-on-Thames, Berkshire).

It was back in 1897 that the Little Nipper mousetrap was first made by Procter Brothers. Since then, there has been fierce debate and much intrigue about how best to bait a mousetrap. One animal behaviourist from Manchester Metropolitan University, and supported by the Stilton Cheesemakers’ Association, suggested that mice were not interested in cheese.

Even the Government through Defra’s “Rural Development Technical Service Note 05 on House Mice” stated that cheese was not necessarily the ideal bait, while the 19thcentury seminal book, “How to Trap and Snare” by Moorman, claimed the locust beans, mixed with maize, were irresistible.

Procter Pest-Stop recommends both peanut butter and chocolate, and the ultimate is a Malteser!
