Allison Transmission enters into cooperation with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles
Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles’ (RMMV) high-mobility TGS-Mil 8x8 truck is now available with the Allison 4500 SP fully automatic transmission for better performance over difficult terrain
MAINZ, Germany – Allison Transmission Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, recently entered into cooperation with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV). RMMV now offers the militarised TGS-Mil truck in every all-wheel drive type (4x4, 6x6 and 8x8) with the six-speed Allison 4500 SP fully automatic transmission. No other truck manufacturer builds a comparable automatic-equipped military vehicle.
Allison and RMMV enjoy an excellent, well-earned reputation with land forces worldwide. Now the two companies are working together to make the TGS-Mil series even more powerful, increasing opportunities for vehicle application.
Allison fully automatic transmissions are equipped with a torque converter, which multiplies engine torque during starting and acceleration for better performance and easy maneuvering even at low speeds. Moreover, Allison’s Continuous Power Technology™ ensures uninterrupted engine power transfer – undaunted by mud, gravel or desert sand. In addition, the torque converter improves driveline durability and reliability by eliminating starting clutch repairs and replacements.
The TGS-Mil series covers heavy-duty trucks with a gross weight of 18 to 41 tons. The vehicles are equipped with MAN D2676 common rail diesel engines, which perform up to 397 kW (540 hp) and 2,500 Nm. The driver cab is available in different sizes and configurations – tailored to mission requirements. The military transporter offers outstanding mobility and off-road capabilities in all climate conditions. Its high reliability explains the success of the TGS-Mil series with the German armed forces and defense programs in many other nations.
