Allison Transmission maximizes efficiency in 110 new TEMSA Avenue CNG buses
For the first time, Istanbul Otobüs A.Ş. equips its 110 new 12-meter TEMSA Avenue CNG buses with Allison fully automatic transmissions
ISTANBUL – Specified with Allison fully automatic transmissions to maximize vehicle efficiency, Turkish manufacturer TEMSA recently delivered its first 12-meter Avenue CNG buses to Istanbul Otobüs A.Ş.
With its population of more than 14 million, traffic congestion in Istanbul ranks among the worst in the world. Istanbul Otobüs develops public transportation solutions that reduce automobile use in the city and preferred TEMSA’s new Allison-equipped CNG bus model in light of positive results from passenger satisfaction and environmental consciousness studies.
According to Abdullah Yasir Sahin, general manager of Istanbul Otobüs A.S., Allison’s technology complements CNG engines by enhancing vehicle performance. “We prefer more comfortable, economical and safer transportation models, therefore we gave preference to TEMSA’s Avenue CNG vehicles,” said Sahin. “Allison fully automatic transmissions, with recognized CNG engine compatibility, were the inevitable option for continuous stop and start operations.”
Allison Transmission’s Torqmatic® Series is specifically designed for city buses having engine power up to 410 kW. The T350R transmission installed in these TEMSA buses has six forward and one reverse gear and is equipped with advanced 5th Generation electronic controls. Continuous power is transferred smoothly during each gearshift while engine torque is multiplied at launch enhancing CNG engine performance. As a result, Allison-equipped vehicles not only accelerate faster –but also perform more efficiently.
In dense city traffic, Allison Automatics offer other benefits as well. “Our drivers feel comfortable because they can focus completely on the road, thanks to Allison fully automatic transmissions. This, in turn, provides us many advantages in terms of reliable service and safety,” said Sahin.
Taner Gider, Allison’s area manager for Turkey and the Middle East, emphasized the advantages offered by fully automatic transmissions compatible with CNG engines. “Allison generates solutions that address both market demands for more environmentally-friendly vehicles and the power and performance challenges that characterize engines built to use alternative fuels,” he said.
