Allison Transmission supports fighting forest fires in Turkey
Equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions, which increase acceleration and maneuverability in emergency vehicles, 19 BMC Pro 625 4x4 model fire trucks have taken their place among the General Directorate of Forestry fleet.
İstanbul, TURKEY - Test driven by the General Directorate of Forestry under both on-road and challenging off-highway conditions, Allison-equipped BMC 625 Model Euro 5 fire trucks have proven to be faster and more efficient.
Four million hectares of forests burn every year, including 550,000 hectares in The Mediterranean region. The area that stretches between Hatay, The Mediterranean, The Aegean coastal regions and Istanbul is most at risk. It’s also the responsibility of The General Directorate of Forestry.
During tough summer months the frequency of forest fires rises as temperatures do, but a larger issue is how rapidly flames spread due to windy conditions. As is the case in all emergencies, response time is crucial to protecting people, property and environmental resources. For this reason, the General Directorate of Forestry has strengthened its fleet by adding 19 BMC 625 model fire trucks, all benefitting from the power, speed and maneuverability of Allison fully automatic transmissions.

The Allison-equipped fire trucks purchased by the General Directorate of Forestry have several features that make firefighting safer and more efficient. The vehicles include a telescopic water spraying monitor, which can turn 125 degrees to the left and right and can be controlled electronically from the driver's cabin. The fire-extinguishing pump can process 2500 liters of water per minute, under 10 bars of pressure, and spray the water up to 20 meters high and 30 meters away. Special water spray nozzles can create a water curtain allowing people and animals to escape and protecting emergency personnel and the vehicle itself. Thanks to a front-mounted crane, the vehicles can maneuver over rough surfaces easily.
