MADRID, SPAIN – A new all-terrain fire-fighting and emergency vehicle has been presented at the INTA (National Institute for Aerospace Technology) off-road test facilities in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid. The LYNX has been jointly developed by the Iturri Group and Bremach with support from Allison Transmission.

The LYNX is built on the T-Rex chassis developed by Italian manufacturer Bremach and is fitted with a 176bhp, 400Nm, 3.0 litre twin-turbo Fiat Powertrain engine that is Euro V compliant. Ideal for off-road operations, it has a GVW of 6.5 tonnes.

The body features EcoPolyFire© technology, an innovative fully recyclable, eco-friendly, plastic material developed by Iturri. This light, long-lasting and more resistant material is a new concept in mono-block bodywork design. It allows for a more compact vehicle with enhanced operations over any terrain. Moreover, the LYNX’s bodywork enables a greater water tank capacity for fire-fighting. Participants were impressed with the responsive smoothness of the fully automatic transmission as well as the power, speed and manoeuvrability of the new vehicle.

T-Rex, a chassis for many applications

The flexible structural design of the T-Rex is ideally suited to the most demanding and extreme requirements of emergency sectors. This makes it perfect for crisis transportation, fire-fighting, civil protection and military services. It also perfectly suits refuse collection, municipal and construction applications. The narrow 170cm chassis also makes the T-Rex a formidable rescue and support vehicle for natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods.  It is fast and powerful for traversing debris and difficult to access areas and can even run along railway lines. Bremach’s T-Rex can operate in temperatures ranging from -25 to +60 degrees Celsius while still providing maximum safety, performance and reliability.

Vehicle performs better and faster with an Allison

The LYNX is fitted with a 5 speed Allison 1000 Series fully automatic transmission connected to the 2 speed transfer box, which results in a total of 10 gear ratios.

The Allison torque converter technology ensures torque multiplication, hence superior startability and precise manoeuvring over any terrain. Thanks to full-power shifting, vehicles equipped with Allison automatic transmissions accelerate faster than manual or AMT gearboxes. Allison products enjoy proven unrivalled reliability, durability and performance in the most severe operating conditions, becoming the preferred transmission for many emergency services worldwide.

In urban applications the major Allison advantages are a quicker response time and better control. Drivers can concentrate solely on driving, with both hands on the steering wheel, while advanced electronic controls automatically select the optimal gear for each duty cycle.

LYNX, an innovative vehicle

LYNX vehicles are a perfect combination of all-terrain mobility, fire-extinguishing capability and maximum space for equipment. This new and exclusive range of light trucks has been developed to respond to emergency situations in any weather conditions and represents an innovative alternative to urban vehicles working in difficult rural environments.

The benefits of the LYNX as compared to other fire-fighting vehicles became obvious during the subsequent demonstrations on the test track. Among the advantages of the EcoPolyFire bodywork is a 15 percent increase in water tank capacity compared to vehicles with bodywork made of other materials. This increased capacity is achieved without affecting existing equipment. Another benefit is the enhanced performance of the vehicle. The risk of overturning in complicated situations or while driving on rough terrain is reduced due to the lower centre of gravity and a larger minimum rollover angle than that stipulated by the European Standard (EN 1846). Furthermore, the LYNX is more cost effective than other options because the new material prolongs the life of the bodywork, affording better anti-corrosion and mechanical resistance than any other vehicle on the market.
