Unterschleissheim, 11th August 2016  –  Mikrotron GmbH, the manufacturer of high-speed cameras and recording systems, has been awarded the ‘Innovation through Research’ seal by the Donors’ Association for German Sciences and Humanities (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft). This is the second time in a row that this prestigious mark has been bestowed on Mikrotron by the Stifterverband, which awards prizes for outstanding achievements by universities and companies in scientific research and innovation.

Mikrotron’s high-speed recording cameras and machine vision cameras are used for production, research and development in most industries. One recent application has sped up the fight against cancer by combining a Mikrotron high-speed camera with a microscope with 400x magnification. Whereas previously one drop of blood containing 10,000 white blood cells had to be measured around the clock to analyse a meaningful quantity, now a precise characterisation of all blood cell types and identification of any mestasizing cells can be ready in 15 minutes. This new analytical procedure, developed by scientists at Dresden University of Technology and known as Real-Time Deformability Cytometry (RT-DC), will also open up new areas of research.

Christian Pilzer, CEO of Mikrotron, commented: “It is a great honour to have the value of our technologies recognised by the Stifterverband in this way. High-speed cameras are playing an increasingly important role in industrial and scientific applications and, through our market-leading capabilities in research and innovation, Mikrotron is proud to be at the forefront of progress.”
