Sheffield-based Matrix Energy Systems picks up award for

‘innovative renewable technology combination’ that fully supports family’s heating, hot water and son's 24 hour a day care needs.

Matrix Energy Systems Ltd., alongside Viessmann Ltd, a leading international manufacturer of heating, cooling and air-conditioning technology, has scooped one of the most highly acclaimed heating industry awards, by winning Renewable Project of the Year – Private Category at the recent H&V News Awards.

The award winning heating system installation at the home of the Davies family in Parbold, Wigan, was carried out by Matrix Energy Systems. It needed to provide the family with reliable heat and hot water for the 24 hour care needs of their son, future proofing them against rising fuel prices, as well as making the property as carbon neutral as possible.

Matrix Energy chose Viessmann products to meet the customer’s needs because the system offered flexibility and the integration of renewable technologies. The company designed and installed a renewable heating system comprising of two Viessmann Vitocal 350-A 14 kW air source heat pumps, a Vitocell 300 cylinder 300L and 2x40 sets of Vitosol 300-T solar thermal evacuated tubes. Each technology works together for optimum efficiency and is governed by the Vitotronic 200 controls, which monitors and calculates which energy source is best used at any time. Energy gathered from the Vitosol 200-T solar thermal tube collectors, located on the property’s roof feeds into a hot water cylinder during the day, whilst the Vitocal 350-A 14 kW air source heat pump provides continuous hot water for the underfloor heating for the 18 rooms.

Paul Leedham, managing director at Matrix Energy says, “This project demonstrates superb integration between technologies which has led to savings of over £5,700 a year compared to an alternative oil boiler solution. In addition to this, the family has been able to pursue additional funding via the Feed-In-Tariff scheme and the Renewable Heat Incentive, totaling over £3,600 per year.”

Leedham went on to say, “We are pleased to have won this award and would like to thank Viessmann for the company’s support and for putting us forward for this award.”
