Strakka Racing returns to WEC in Brazil
Racing return now scheduled for Brazil. Second chassis to be built up for customer testing
Strakka Racing and chassis designer DOME confirm that its S103 LMP2 car will now join the FIA World Endurance Championship at the final round of the series in November. An intensive development programme with subsequent long lead times for new parts, coupled with an extended test plan mean the team will now debut the car at the Six Hours of Sao Paulo race on the 30th November.
“After analysing the car post Spa, DOME wanted to make some revisions to the rear geometry to enable us to have the range of set up options we needed,” says Dan Walmsley, Strakka Racing’s team principal. “To accommodate the revised suspension pick up points the gearbox casing and bellhousing had to be redesigned and then retooled. This programme was always very tight and with a need to go and test these and other changes we are making, Brazil is the best option for a race debut.”
Despite the delay and disappointment not to race sooner, Strakka is confident that the revised plan is the correct one for the project. “As a race team, to be on the side lines for so long is actually really hard and we know it has been frustrating for our partners, the championship and our loyal supporters having the car spending more time in the workshop than on track,” adds Walmsley. “We are sorry to to only be out in one round but as a professional race team and a development partner for this car, Strakka will only ever race the car when it is proven and a competitive package.”
With the new parts now ordered and being assembled, Strakka Racing also confirmed that a second car is being built to enable testing to continue whilst the first chassis is competing. “Together with our LMP simulator, prospective drivers will be able to experience the car both virtually and for those serious in joining us for 2015, on track too,” concludes Walmsley.
