PARIS 27 September 2012 – HARMAN (NYSE:HAR), the global leading supplier of premium audio and infotainment systems, has created an ultimate in-car audio experience for three new BMW models. All systems are based on the harman/kardon Logic 7 surround sound technology tailor made to match the nuances of each individual car design.

BMW 1 Series Three-door

This model features five 26 mm metal-matrix dome tweeters on the dashboard and at the front & rear. Below the front seats are two 217 mm woofers (central bass), and five 100 mm ALumaprene midrange speakers located at the dashboard, front & rear with specially designed membranes and magnet systems to create major sound dynamics and increased effectiveness over usual speakers. Finally, to round out the system is a harman/kardon Logic 7 DSP amplifier in Class-D technology with a total output of 360 watts.

BMW 3 Series Touring

This series has five 26 mm metal-matrix dome tweeters located on the dashboard, front & side with two 217 mm woofers (central bass), below the front seats. Five 100 mm ALumaprene midrange speakers are on the dashboard, front & side with specially developed membranes and magnet systems for major sound dynamics and increased effectiveness over usual speakers. There is also a harman/kardon Logic 7 DSP amplifier in Class-D technology with a 625-watt total output. To top it off, there are two 80 mm x 200 mm EDPL midrange tweeters up above in the sky roof to complete the surround sound experience.

BMW X1 Facelift E84

This BMW model has four 26 mm metal-matrix dome tweeters, front & rear, complemented by two 217 mm powerful woofers (central bass), below the front seats. Four 100 mm metal-matrix midrange speakers are at the front & rear and the harman/kardon Logic 7 DSP amplifier has a 340-watt total output. Completing the system is a 80 mm x 200 mm EDPL midrange tweeter located on the dashboard.

The sound of the harman/kardon Logic 7 surround system is shaped by its fully automatic AuraVox equalizing system. HARMAN has brought its profound knowledge of acoustics and psychoacoustics in this car sound technology, which evaluates hundreds of parameters and independently generates the appropriate filters, corrects speaker delay differences, and sets optimum volume levels of individual channels. As a result of this acoustic tuning, amended by manual fine-tuning by acoustic experts, all precisely positioned high-end loudspeakers develop their full tone potential in interplay.

“Our Logic 7 multichannel surround-sound technology has set a new standard for acoustic precision and authenticity”, said Sachin Lawande, Executive Vice President and Co-President, Lifestyle and Infotainment. “No matter where passengers are seated in the car, they are able to enjoy a fascinating listening experience.”
