Viessmann opens green production plant in Turkey
Newly opened production plant for gas-fired appliances runs exclusively on renewable energy
The Viessmann group has opened a new production plant in Turkey, which was created solely using environmentally-friendly, low-pollution and recyclable materials.
Located in Manisa, on the west coast of Turkey, the plant runs entirely on energy from renewable sources. 60 per cent of power is supplied by Viessmann Vitovolt solar PV panels located on the plant’s roof, while five of the manufacturer’s air/water heat pumps provide space heating. The cooling energy produced by the heat pumps alone is expected to be sufficient to cool the whole plant by 10 ̊C in the summer months, when outdoor temperatures typically reach 36 ̊C.
Viessmann has operated in Turkey for 20 years. The manufacturer’s growing sales in the country prompted the development of the new centre, which will house the production of its wall-mounted gas-fired appliances.
The new plant will be led by managing director Joachim Schlichtig, who in addition to being responsible for the plant meeting the latest standards of sustainable construction, will also oversee a research and development team on the premises.
As with all other production plants in the Viessmann Group, the Manisa factory will also employ the VitoTop production system. First established by the group ten years ago, the manufacturing approach stems from a focus on value-added processes and waste avoidance. Viessmann’s VitoTop system sees it refrain from adding any process costs which do not increase the value of the units from a consumer perspective.
