First time out using ZircoFlex® flexible heatshield for BTCC title challenger Andrew Jordan results in two race wins

OXFORD – As the BTCC reaches its climax, championship leader Pirtek Racing has switched to thermal barrier specialists Zircotec to provide robust cooling solutions for Andrew Jordan’s Honda Civic.  Running Zircotec’s ZircoFlex® heatshield for the first time at Rockingham, Pirtek Racing was able to win two out of the three races, seizing the outright championship lead with just two rounds to go.

Until now, Pirtek Racing had used gold foils to reflect heat away from the air filter and inlet pipe. Whilst offering some radiant heat protection, the expensive gold sheet offered little resistance against conductive heat, resulting in higher air intake temperatures that can blunt performance. Zircotec’s unique ZircoFlex® hybrid aluminium/ceramic structure provides both radiant and conductive heat protection in a 0.25 mm thin single, flexible sheet that can be cut and folded around complex structures. For added convenience, Pirtek Racing uses Zircotec’s self-adhesive variant, making it easy to apply, even trackside.

“What a great way to start Eurotech Racing’s partnership with Zircotec at Rockingham,” says team principal Mike Jordan. “Debuting ZircoFlex on the intake system of Andrew’s Pirtek Honda Civic, we secured, for the first time, two BTCC wins in a day.”

“Zircotec is a heat protection specialist for motorsport and its thermal barrier coatings are used by over half the BTCC grid, notably protecting air filter housings and exhausts, offering improvements in performance and reliability,” says Peter Whyman, Zircotec’s sales director. “We saw an opportunity to improve easily and quickly the thermal protection on the Pirtek Racing Honda. In the run up to the final round we plan to look at other products that will improve further the thermal management.”

The next round of the championship takes place at Silverstone on the 29th September with the final at Brands Hatch on October 13th.
