PCI: Keep Ball Moving Forward on Auto Glass Reform in Florida

Tallahassee, Fla. — The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) today issued the following statement attributed to Logan McFaddin, its regional manager, regarding the Florida Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee advancing Senate Bill 396.  The bill, introduced by Senator Dorothy Hukill (R-Port Orange), relating to motor vehicle insurance coverage for windshield glass, now moves to the Senate Rules Committee, its last committee of reference.

“PCI commends the members of the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee for taking up and advancing SB 396 today.  It is important the ball continues to move forward on this important issue to alleviate assignment of benefits abuse in the auto glass marketplace.  

“In 2006, roughly 400 auto glass AOB lawsuits were filed against auto insurers.  In 2016, just 10 years later, there were nearly 20,000 lawsuits filed, according to the Florida Department of Financial Services.

“These numbers tell us there are too many Florida drivers susceptible to the bad practices happening within some auto glass repair shops.  And, this AOB abuse must stop.

“PCI encourages Florida lawmakers to pass meaningful reforms this session that will safeguard Florida drivers and the insurance benefits they rely on during a critical situation.”
