So far in 2015 we’ve seen winter storms coupled with bitter cold temperatures, to the recent Midwest tornadoes and the continued drought along the west coast, proof that every part of the country is at risk for severe weather events.  America’s PrepareAthon is a national community-based campaign coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to increase readiness through hazard-specific drills, group discussions, and exercises. Held every spring and fall, the PrepareAthon encourages Americans across the country to practice preparedness actions before a disaster or emergency strikes.

The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) will join in the efforts and review our emergency plans so we know what to do in the event of an emergency.

We know that disasters can strike anytime and anyplace so it’s important that we are all prepared. Nearly every region of the country experiences some form of extreme weather event, PCI is planning to take an active role in learning our emergency response plans.

As with many life events, preparation is the key to success. When you prepare and practice for an emergency in advance of an event, it makes a real difference in your ability to take an immediate and informed action when it matters most. Early action can also help you recover quickly, including making sure you have your insurance documents up to date and adequate coverage to help with the recovery process.

Thousands of individuals, organizations, schools, houses of worship, and local governments across the Nation are actively participating in America’s PrepareAthon this month and PCI is proud to take part in this movement!

Preparing for disasters is a year-round activity. We encourage all organizations, businesses, and families to pick a date that works and register to be counted.

It’s not a matter of if the next disaster will happen, but when. Start taking action and prepare now! Simple steps such as having a discussion and conducting a quick drill can help determine what you need to do next to become more prepared. Be smart, take part, and prepare for emergencies before they strike!
