Thirty Years of Safety & Control at Heart

Now it’s 2012, safety systems and machine productivity specialist Prolec is into its 30th year of trading. The company’s birthday is Christmas Eve – still the far end of the year but nonetheless significant for the industry’s leading provider of construction plant safety system solutions.

Like many industries, the past 30 years has seen dramatic changes. For Prolec, the advance of technology has been at the heart of its innovative solutions. All aspects of the control, measurement, and guidance needs for construction equipment benefit from new technologies. Similarly, many sectors that deploy machinery have witnessed a shift in attitudes driven by greater awareness of the environment supported by initiatives like recycling. All these activities need safety controls –and Prolec has been the supplier of choice throughout the three decades.

The forthcoming 30-year celebrations at Prolec stand to be boosted by the launch of a ground-breaking new modular product range in May. “This will be the first launch of its scale in the company’s considerable history. Communications, processing and positioning technology feature prominently in the new product solutions, highlighting the relentless march of progress,” says Prolec Marketing Director Gary Tuffy

But what of the past thirty years for Prolec? The company boasts many milestone events and industry ‘firsts’. Here are just few…

Going back 15 years, Prolec was the first company to develop and introduce a Graphical Depth Monitoring System. That was at the start of 1995 as a project for renowned contractor AMEC. In June 1999, Prolec developed the first 3D Excavator Machine Guidance System which was used by contractor Nuttals in the Windsor & Maidenhead Flood Relief project. In September that year, the company also supplied the first CANBus products for an MOD Caterpillar contract – now all intelligent distributed control systems typically deploy CANBus technology. Shortly in to the new millennium, in February 2001, the first Graphical SLI became a reality for Rexquote.

Most notably, in 2006, Prolec became part of the James Fisher& Sons Group, and was reorganised in 2011 as a standalone business in the Fisher group adding to the company’s stability, product development funding and “Setting us up for another successful 30 years,” claims Tuffy.
