Pointsec Mobile Technologies delivers enhanced security to Pocket PC 2002 devices Pointsec Mobile Technologies Inc., a Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 launch partner, announced today its second handheld computer security product - Pointsec® for Pocket PC. For enterprises deploying handheld devices operating on the Windows CE platform who require enforceable and centrally managed data security, including mandatory access control and data encryption, the new product offers the industry's most automatic and transparent security solution. Pointsec is a leading developer of enterprise security software for PCs, mobile computers and PDAs, providing automatic encryption, access control and user authentication - all centrally managed. "Organizations see the enormous potential of empowering its workforce though the use of handheld computers and PDAs," said Doug Chalmers, president, Pointsec Mobile Technologies Inc. "Executives tell us they have been hesitant to deploy handheld devices in larger numbers because it has not been possible to ensure the enforcement of their security policies with these distributed devices. The combination of security features within Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 Software and Pointsec® for Pocket PC now enables organizations to use these mobile devices while operating within their defined security policy." Pointsec® for PocketPC uses a combination of unique picture-based access control, user authentication and data encryption to ensure the security of data-at-rest. Pointsec® for Pocket PC is an extension of a suite of mobile security products Pointsec Mobile Technologies launched earlier this year with the introduction of Pointsec® for Palm OS®. This newest product is a complement to Pointsec's original security product, Pointsec PC® 4.0, which offers complete access control, authentication and full disk encryption security for PCs and laptops. "Pocket PC 2002 has a great advantage in the marketplace because it is designed to be the most connected and expandable PDA available," said Doug Dedo, lead product manager, Microsoft. "The additional security offered by Pointsec's mandatory access control and user lockout enables enterprises to take full advantage of these business tools without compromising security." Pointsec® for PocketPC Features Unlike other handheld device security products, Pointsec for Pocket PC combines access control and authentication features, automatic encryption, central management and remote help to protect data on a Pocket PC. Key product features include: · PicturePINtm Authentication and Mandatory Access Control - Login codes consisting of image sets (pictures) are an alternate to numerical PIN codes - making login PINs easy to remember and hard to steal. · QuickPINtm Authentication and Access Control - Allows users to enter a shorter version of their PicturePIN when the device goes into "sleep" mode for quick, yet secure, access. · Automatic 128-bit and 256-bit User-Transparent Encryption - All data stored on removable media is automatically encrypted without user intervention. · User Account Lockout - The number of failed user log in attempts, before account lockout, is set by the administrator and can be centrally managed and administered. · Remote Help - Even without access to the Internet, users can reset their password or regain access to their device by contacting their help desk. · Central management - Administrators can create, deploy and update their organization's security policy and provide remote help all from a central location. Pointsec® for PocketPC will be available for shipment during November 2001. About Pointsec Mobile Technologies, Inc.
