Pointsec Mobile Technologies signs agreement with US tax authority, the IRS The IT security company Protect Data's subsidiary Pointsec Mobile Technologies has entered into an agreement with the US tax authority, the IRS, for the supply of the security applications Pointsec for PCTM and Pointsec for PalmTM. The IRS will use the Swedish software to protect its portable computers and its Palm handheld computers. The order will be delivered during the current quarter and is estimated to be worth just over SEK 3 million. A business unit within the US tax authority, the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), has now signed an agreement with Pointsec Mobile Technologies. Pointsec Mobile Technologies has had success in the public authority sector over the past year, entering into agreements with e.g. the US Department of Defense, the US Navy and Army and the US Department of Justice. "The American public authority sector is important to us, not least because it is so large. We have noticed a steady increase in the level of interest in IT security protection on the part of the American authorities in recent times, and the earlier, smaller agreements we succeeded in signing with authorities such as the Department of Justice and the Department of Defense have no doubt paved the way for this latest agreement with the IRS," says Thomas Bill, MD of Pointsec Mobile Technologies. Behind these successes on the US market is also the positive reception Pointsec has had among the trade press and analysts. In March this year, Pointsec received top marks in a test carried out by SC Magazine, the USA's most widely read IT security magazine. Pointsec received the comprehensive five star grade (five being the highest) and the accolade 'Best Buy'. In July, the US analysis company Gartner Group also stated that, in a forthcoming report on security for portable and handheld computers, it would be naming Pointsec as the world leader in the field. According to Gartner, Pointsec is one of the companies best placed to protect the information of large companies and organisations in the mobile age. Pointsec is a security system that uses encryption to protect all information and software on desktop PCs, portable and handheld computers. Only the user able to give the correct identity and password may access the information on the computer. Pointsec has been developed for large organisations and companies, and is adapted in such a way that it can be simply and cost effectively installed and administered centrally over a network.
