STOCKHOLM, Sweden, December 7, 2004 – Pointsec, a global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise security software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smartphones, today released Pointsec® for Smartphone, a new version of its security software for smartphones running Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003.

Pointsec® for Smartphone is the first available solution to offer extensive data protection including sign-on and encryption for mobile devices based on Smartphone 2003. Any data residing in files and folders is automatically encrypted in real time, with no user intervention required. Email and SMS data can also be encrypted and decrypted on the fly. “The growth of the Windows Mobile platform, together with our pledge to support all common mobile software platforms, made it a logical step to develop and launch Pointsec for Smartphone, which we believe is the first available solution of its kind,” said Peter Larsson, CEO, Pointsec. Pointsec’s enterprise-class features for centralized management and remote help are supported by Pointsec for Smartphone, allowing for systems management and helpdesk staff to manage all users from a single point, through a common interface, regardless of the client platform. Smartphone 2003 users also benefit from Pointsec’s acclaimed ease of use, including patent-pending PicturePIN® user identification. “For some time, we have experienced an increasing number of smartphones in corporate use, running e-mail and other applications that used to require PDAs and laptops,” said Peter Larsson. “This makes it essential to include smartphones in the enterprise security space, which requires both awareness from users and decisive action from management.” Pointsec’s security solution is currently available for several other market-leading smartphones, including the Sony Ericsson P900, Nokia 9300 and Nokia 9500 Communicator. Pointsec for Smartphone includes support for central management using Pointsec profiles. Pointsec profiles enable IT and security management to create, change, and enforce the organization’s security policies. Pointsec for Smartphone is available from Pointsec and its distribution partners worldwide.
