Protect Data provides SEK 35 million security solution for FöreningsSparbanken IT security company Protect Data has been awarded an additional order for security tokens (password generators) for FöreningsSparbanken. The order is worth approximately SEK 35 million and delivery will take place in phases throughout 2001. The ActivCard tokens play a central role in the security system Protect Data supplies to FöreningsSparbanken, whose Internet customers numbers are expected to increase to over one million. Since Protect Data and FöreningsSparbanken (then called Sparbanken) began their partnership in 1996, Internet use among the bank's customers has increased dramatically. The previous year the number of customers using the bank's Internet services more than doubled from 400,000 to 800,000 and FöreningsSparbanken is currently the world's largest Internet bank to use this type of security solution. This year the bank estimates a further increase of approximately 400,000 Internet customers. The current agreement is being entered into in order to enable the bank to cope with continued expansion. Delivery of the tokens will take place in phases throughout 2001. "We have created Internet services which combine a high degree of security with high user friendliness and I think this helps explain our success. This solution is mobile, secure and simple to use and customers have the option of Internet banking wherever they are. The need for support is minimal too," says Håkan Nyberg, manager of FöreningsSparbanken's Internet bank. Thanks to ActivCard's tokens the bank can securely identify customers. Protect Data's responsibilities include initiation and preparation, stock and distribution of tokens to the bank's branches. "It's partnership with FöreningsSparbanken has enabled Protect Data to become involved in creating one of the world's largest Internet banks. It is naturally an excellent advertisement for our expertise and our range of IT security products," says Carl Rosvall, CEO of Protect Data.
