Protect Data signs group licence agreement with Telia IT security company Protect Data Sverige AB, the Swedish subsidiary of Protect Data, has signed a group licence agreement with Telia for the supply of Pointsectm, the IT security software program. Subsequent to the signing of the agreement in March, a first volume, with an order value of approximately SEK 1.3 million, has been delivered. The agreement gives Telia the option to take out several licences for the software program throughout the year. The total value of orders may amount to some SEK 10 million in licensing fees, according to Protect Data. In 1999, Telia signed a restricted licensing agreement for Pointsec (formerly Protect!), the security software program, and the company is now extending the agreement to protect more computers within the Group. The system will be used on all Telia's portable computers. "We need protection for our portable computers because we do not want information on their hard disks to end up in the wrong hands, for example, in the event of theft. Pointsec meets our requirements for good security and ease of handling in a large organisation," says Göran Laxén, Information Security Manager at Telia. Pointsec is a security system developed by Pointsec Mobile Technologies, a subsidiary of Protect Data. The system protects all information contained in portable and stationary computers. Only users inputting the correct identity and password can gain access to information on the computers. Pointsec has been developed to meet the needs of large companies and organisations and has been adapted to allow for smooth and easy installation and centralised administration across a network. "We already have a smaller agreement with Telia and, naturally, we are extremely pleased that they have chosen to build further on our solution. IT and telecommunications are among our prioritised target groups and we have signed similar agreements with several leading companies in the industry, such as Cisco, Marconi and Ericsson. We view this agreement as further proof that our products are of the highest international quality," says Thomas Bill, president of Pointsec Mobile Technologies. Other clients using Pointsec products include SEB, Cap Gemini, Ernst & Young, Volvo and the US Department of Justice. Pointsec Mobile Technologies also develops security systems for mobile terminals, such as palmtop computers and smart telephones.
