The Punkt. AC02 Table Clock, designed by Jasper Morrison

The Punkt. AC02 Table Clock, designed by Jasper Morrison, is being launched at the London Design Festival on Tuesday 20 September 2022. It is the successor to the acclaimed AC01, which appeared in design exhibitions around the world – including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Tate Modern in London.

Product background

In 2008, Petter Neby realised the importance of not waking up to a mobile phone. But when he tried to buy an analogue clock, he discovered that it was impossible to find one that was a) elegantly designed and b) well-made from high‑quality materials. He had been working in the consumer electronics sector for some years, so he decided to create Punkt. in order to produce the clock he wanted. His first step was to call Jasper Morrison, one of the world’s leading product designers…

The AC01 launched in 2011, just as the world was getting excited about the convenience of using smartphones for everything. It was extremely well received by the design world, and sold steadily until its retirement in 2022.

Introducing the AC02

“The AC02’s low-key sophistication traces its design heritage back to the Bauhaus movement of 1920s Germany. It builds on the acclaimed Punkt. AC01, which was launched in 2011 and has been presented in design exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Triennale Museum in Milan, and the Tate Modern in London.”

Petter Neby, founder of Punkt.

“Although built around a completely new mechanism, the AC02 remains true to the original design of Punkt.'s very first product. With subtle refinements to the aluminium body and a new deep black anodised finish, this updated model celebrates constancy.”

Jasper Morrison, product designer

In a hectic world of constant change, the AC02 retains the elegant aesthetics that made its predecessor an instant classic. In terms of what’s new, it now features a completely different movement, the controls on the back have been subtly refined, and it is now finished in anodised black – with an option for the alarm time indicator to be in a contrasting colour. Production has been shifted from China to Japan, where it is hand‑assembled for Punkt. by one of the country’s most long-established clockmakers.

The AC02’s body is a block of solid, heavy aluminium. The clock‑face is protected not by plastic, which inevitably gets scuffed over time, but by scratch-resistant glass. The AC02 is still the only premium-quality analogue table clock on the market; as well as being the most stylish alternative to waking up to a smartphone, it is also a pleasing addition to anywhere in the home or office – and its analogue clock‑face is the ultimate antidote to digital overload.

The AC02 will be unveiled at the London Design Fair on 20 September 2022. The standard (all black) version will be released in mid-October, and the first version with a contrasting-colour alarm time indicator will be released in mid-November. Advance orders will be taken from 20 September, at the LDF and via Punkt.’s website.

Headquartered in Switzerland, Punkt. was established by Petter Neby in 2008 with the idea of bringing a breath of fresh air into the consumer electronics market with outstanding, timeless products designed to do their job, without intruding on their owner's time and attention. From the very beginning, renowned British industrial designer Jasper Morrison was on board as the company’s art director. The name Punkt. is taken from the Germanic word for ‘point’ or ‘full stop/period’, and was chosen to symbolize the way the company’s products are built around simplicity, clarity and focus. Punkt. launched its debut product, the DP 01 Cordless Phone, in January 2011 at Maison et Objet in Paris. Since then, the company has continued to develop stylish, carefully designed and elegantly crafted electronics products aimed at people who want to be in charge of the technology they buy, and who understand the importance of subtle beauty in everyday life.
