24” interactive brick concept and cloud e-commerce software unveiled at major UK retail shows

Freiburg, Germany, 4 March 2014 – Pyramid Computer GmbH is showcasing its latest polytouch innovations for the in-store retail market at the upcoming Retail Business Technology Expo (11-12 March, Earls Court 2, London) and Internet Retailing Expo (26-27 March, NEC, Birmingham). Highlights include a new 24” interactive brick concept that enables all manner of unique, interlocking kiosk configurations for in-store design creativity; and Nephele for polytouch, the world’s first out-of-the-box software solution bringing e-commerce in-store faster and easier than ever before. The polytouch 22000 POS and 32000 POS systems will also be on display demonstrating a number of novel browse and order shopping application examples.

“Using our highly customised self-service kiosks and in-store software, retailers are able to optimise shop floor space and execute a true multi-channel journey for the constantly connected consumer,” said Christian Jeske, Marketing Director, Pyramid Computer GmbH. “Nephele and polytouch can help retailers of any size to increase turnover by 20-40 per cent simply by offering consumers improved product choice, payment and collection options at the point-of-sale and creating a total new dimension of shopping.”

Bringing e-commerce in-store

Pyramid’s Nephele cloud-based e-commerce solution will be demonstrated to a retail audience for the first time at RBTE and IRX 2014. This cost-effective, highly customisable software enables quick and easy implementation within a very short timeframe. Its architecture makes it suitable for cloud applications and offers seamless integration with retailers’ existing IT systems. It is also optimised for devices such as smartphones, tablets and kiosks and is app ready for iOS and Android.

Using Nephele, retailers can leverage existing investments and expand their omnichannel capabilities via virtual shelf extension. This not only creates a new shopping dimension for customers but also helps retailers gather vital statistics about customer shopping habits.

Inspiring creative in-store design

The new 24” polytouch interactive brick concept is also showing for the first time. The concept inspires freedom in in-store design by allowing individual polytouch chassis to be joined by concave and convex ‘brick’ elements, borders and faceplates. A range of polytouch extension modules can also be added into the design, using the patent pending Quick Mounting System (QMS), such as thermal printer, barcode scanner, RFID HF near-field receiver, camera, magnetic card reader and Chip & PIN payment device. Stunning installations of all shapes and sizes can be realised, without any limits. For example, they can be incorporated into walls, vertical posts or pillars, archways, and made into zigzag and wave designs.

Facilitating multi-channel strategies

In addition, polytouch 22000 POS and 32000 POS systems will be on the stand at both shows demonstrating original software applications for retail such as Face Cake, a fun fashion accessory and makeup selector. An integrated camera allows the shopper to virtually try on and experiment with makeup colours, sunglasses, scarfs and a range of other items, and then take a picture to share with friends.

polytouch POS systems connect to the web to facilitate multi-channel strategies such as cross-selling, product promotion applications and social network integration. Extension modules can be added either side of the main display as and when a specific functionality is required, enabling retailers to keep up to date with the latest standards and processes. All POS models are equipped with a receipt printer that can operate at three times the regular print speed. polytouch units have also been developed with a built-in VeriFone PCI/EMV-approved chip and PIN payment terminal as well as integrated near field communication (NFC) payment for cashless payments.

All polytouch units are astoundingly compact in size to suit every store design and their packaged retail order software also fits existing ecommerce architecture. They are also highly customisable and intelligently designed, enabling retailers to configure and adapt their own individual solutions quickly and easily based on customer search information and purchasing behaviour.

polytouch systems have a sleek, compact design with a familiar smartphone interface that invites contact and eliminates frustration. Using advanced projected capacitive (PCAP) touch technology, the systems are capable of tracking 20 simultaneous touches and gestures with remarkable precision, making them ideal for families or a group of friends. The quality of the touch response guarantees at least 10 per cent less interrupted purchases than other touch devices, improving ROI.
