Quantum’s DXi6701/02 meets growing demand for reliable data protection for Europe's largest cloud services platform; helps recoup investment twice over

16.10.2013, London, UK Quantum Corp.(NYSE: QTM), a proven global expert in big data management and data protection, today announced its DXi6701/02 disk backup systems have helped Interoute, owner operator of Europe's largest cloud services platform, to enhance customer backup and address the growing demand for managed cloud services. Quantum’s DXi6701/02 solutions give Interoute a scalable, high performance approach to managing customer data which significantly lowers their data protection costs, allowing them to re-coup their investment twice over.

Interoute previously supported customer backup and retrieval needs using local attached storage through multiple backup nodes. Growing demand for managed storage, the requirement to adhere to stringent customer SLAs governing data availability, performance and efficiency led Interoute to turn to Quantum for a more cost effective and reliable data protection solution. The move also coincided with Interoute offering customers near real-time replication of their cloud-based backup data sets to a second site.

Best-in-Class Replication and Ease of Use

“We looked at other appliances, but the Quantum DXi6700 Series offers a best-in-class blend of enterprise-class replication, deduplication and ease-of-use in one disk-based backup solution,” said Sam Ludlow, senior cloud consultant, Interoute. “Quantum is helping Interoute to industrialise its managed services. As customers increasingly turn to cloud computing for the mission-critical applications, Quantum provides a stable, scalable, and high performance approach to managing customer data. It’s all delivered very cost-effectively – in fact, by standardising the two DXi6700 Series, we’ve has been able to free up the equivalent of 50 percent of one administrator’s time.”

Gabriel Chaher, vice president, EMEA sales & marketing for Quantum added: "The improvements to service delivery and cost-savings clearly illustrate how solutions like the DXi Series can bring immediate results. With our experience in Data Protection, Cloud and Big Data, we’re enabling our customers to quickly deploy solutions that improve business agility."

Interoute deployed two DXi6700 Series deduplication appliances, each scaled to 48 terabytes (TB) capacity, with Veeam providing the backup management software. The solution currently protects up to 5,000 machines on the virtual cloud, and with 60 versions of each virtual machine (i.e. 60 restore points for each guest), that means the Quantum environment is protecting up to 300,000 virtual machine restore points. Backup is spread over multiple nodes, and Interoute has the flexibility to restore from any node.
