Quincy Bioscience Recognizes Brain Injury Awareness Month with Memory Test for Veterans
Madison, Wis – (March 5, 2012) March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. In addition to the 1.7 million Americans who sustain a brain injury each year, tens of thousands of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are dealing with the consequences of head trauma. The Department of Defense reports that 233,425 of America’s veterans have been diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injuries since 2000.
Quincy Bioscience announces the launch of a new initiative, GI Brain Health, to support military veterans that have suffered traumatic brain injuries. Now available online, a free memory test will provide a welcome resource to those military veterans who suffer from memory loss due to traumatic brain injuries.
Brain Injury Association of America defines a traumatic brain injury as a “blow, jolt, or bump to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain”. Brain injuries can affect a victim’s life immediately, or not until months after an impact.
Memory loss is one of the most prevalent signs of a traumatic brain injury, and can result in devastating lasting effects on a person’s lifestyle. Research suggests memory loss due to brain injury is related to elevated levels of calcium in brain cells. Quincy Bioscience is interested in researching the cognitive deficits that can occur with brain injuries.
Returning soldiers and veterans concerned about their memory or are experiencing memory loss symptoms are encouraged to take a free memory test by visiting- www.gibrainhealth.com.
