Heston’s Roast with a Twist, with Rational

SelfCookingCenters help C4’s Great British Roast at Castell Coch

As part of the C4’s Great British Food series, one of the programmes involves Heston Blumenthal cooking outside on location for a special event, at Castell Coch in Cardiff. As usual with Heston’s eye-popping recipes, the cooking has to be absolutely precise to create the ‘fantastical’ dish perfectly.

The filming crew’s normal suppliers weren’t able to get Rational combi steamers to the site in time, so the producers turned to Rational UK, who agreed to step in and supply them.

“The chefs cooked the roast potatoes for our Roast Beef carvery inside Castle Coch,” says Karen Ellis at Betty TV. “Rational supplied and delivered the combi steamers to the castle grounds so our chefs could be on site and make the production run smoothly. They also provided us with one of their engineers in case anything were to go wrong, but we can safely say it all went ahead without a glitch!”

Combi Steamers:

Rational supplied three 10-grid SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency models to Castell Coch for Heston and his team. All were electric units, each accommodating up to ten 1/1GN containers.

  • HiDensityControl uses patented dynamic air mixing technology, which precisely controls the speed of the unit’s fan to channel the heat and humidity to exactly where it is needed. This not only delivers outstanding cooking quality, but also allows chefs to maximise output, since they can load more food into the same size cooking cabinet.   • Efficient LevelControl tells the user which different foods can be cooked together at the same time and intelligently controls the cooking time for each rack. It means that everything is cooked to perfection, every time.
  • SelfCooking Control regulates the cooking processes – even the most complex of cooking routines can be initiated at the touch of a button, thanks to the simple control system. However, numerous new cooking options allow chefs to adjust the cooking process according to their own recipes.  They always know exactly what’s going on, since they can see the status of the cooking process via the control panel. This means no more time-consuming routine tasks, such as monitoring food, and more time for essentials such as creativity.
  • CareControl further enhances efficiency by detecting the build up of cooking residues in the SelfCookingCenter and always suggesting the appropriate cleaning level. This saves up to 40% in terms of energy, water and chemicals.
